I Wasn’t Born in a Casino, But I Got There As Fast as I Could

You don’t have to be a professional gambler or a gambling addict to enjoy what casinos have to offer. Even the most casual player can find enough to entertain you in a casino.

You’ve probably seen one of those stickers that says, “I wasn’t born in [name of the state], but I got here as fast as I could!” Well, that’s how I feel about WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma; I wasn’t born there, but … well, you get the picture. By the way, I have no interest in WinStar; I am interested – but it is not invested!

There is something about casinos – other than games safe and secure online casino – that keeps people coming back. Consider casinos as a form of entertainment. Many are now “resorts” with an adjacent hotel for nearby accommodations and all the amenities that come with it. Depending on the size, in addition to the various types of games, casinos can offer:

• Big Name Entertainment
• A sports lounge (with TV showing all types of sporting events)
• Many places to eat (from sophisticated restaurants to snack bars)
• A pool
• Exercise and spa facilities
• Golf

In most states, casinos are on Indian reserve properties because that is the only way to be legal. According to the Tribe Report of the National Gaming Commission of India, in July 2011, there were 460 Indian gaming operations in the United States. Thirty-six states (perhaps so far) have Indian casinos, and that does not include Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

As for the fact that they are Indian casinos, it is just that the tribes are trying to recover part of what has been taken from them for more than 200 years. According to Brett D. Fromso in his book “Hitting the Jackpot”, the Pequot Tribe at Foxwoods Casino was, at the same time, “the richest Indian Tribe in history”.

In all honesty, from Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, to Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, Oregon, I have never known a casino that I didn’t like. And, I met many of them. We travel by motorhome through all 48 continental states and visit casinos in all states that have them. It is a form of entertainment for us that provides a lot of pleasure. We happen to live in a state that has only one casino that is not very useful, so let’s go to an adjacent state with one that is.

Excuse me, but I think it’s time to go – to the casino.
